Batemans Bay Village Centre in the running for the top Water Wise Award

BATEMANS BAY, October 10th 2011 - The Batemans Bay Village Centre has been nominated as one of five finalists in the 2011 Prime Ministers Water Wise Award.

This is the nation's top award for excellence in water efficiency by commercial and industrial water users, and the Village Centre is the only shopping centre among the finalists recognising the centre's water saving achievements over the last three years.

Over the last financial year alone, the Village Centre reduced their water use by 13.9 million litres, that's a saving of more than 38,000 litres per day.

Brian Churchill, Property Portfolio Manager at Local Government Super, the owners of the Village Centre, says that "we have invested a lot in making the Batemans Bay Village Centre one of the most sustainable shopping centres in Australia.

"We recognise that water is a very valuable resource and that's why reducing our water use in all the buildings we own is one of our top priorities."

Local Government Super has also worked closely with Savills, the centre's building management team, and Mark Shorter, Sustainability Officer at Eurobodalla Shire Council, to promote best practice sustainability at the centre and also to the wider community.

Kristyne Van Schieveen, the Village Centre's Manager, said "the centre is well-positioned to meet the challenges and the opportunities of a changing environment.

"The community now expects business to be more environmentally responsible and our aim to be known as a genuine leader in sustainability performance."

The winner of the Prime Minister's Water Wise Award will be announced in Melbourne on the 11th of November.
